Declaration of Carers' Rights

As a caregiver, I have the right to:

  • There is nothing selfish about taking care of myself. It will make me better able to take care of my loved ones or friends.

  • I recognize the limits of my own endurance and abilities, and I seek help from others when necessary, even when my loved ones may object.

  • I will lead a normal life (not including the part about the person I care for) just as he or she would if he or she were healthy. I will do everything I can reasonably do for the person I care for, and I have the right to do anything I want for myself.

  • I occasionally get angry, frustrated, and express other difficult emotions.

  • I reject any conscious or unconscious attempts by family and friends to manipulate me through guilt, anger, or depression.

  • Whatever I do, I will be rewarded with the care, concern, forgiveness, and acceptance of those I love.

  • I feel proud of my accomplishments and I am motivated to support those I care for.

  • Protect my identity and my right to earn a living when my loved ones no longer need my full-time support.

  • Expect and require yourself to seek physical and mental help provided by the government or other organizations, and support and encourage family members or friends who are being cared for to get the support they need.

  • Others (customize your own requirements):

* Add your own claims to this list. Try to read this list aloud every day .
